How to stamp your golf ball properly
Used the right way, a stamp gives a sharp mark that does not smudge and lasts on the course. Here are our tips, from more than 15 years of personalising golf ball stamps.
Before first use
- Your stamp is delivered already inked: do not add ink before trying it.
- Stamp above 15 °C (59 °F). Below that, the print may run: in winter, mark your balls indoors before you leave.
- A clean, dry ball: wipe it before marking it.
The right technique
- Open the stamp.
- Press briefly and straight, or roll the ball over the stamp. Pressing too long distorts the design.
- The ink dries in 2 seconds: your ball is ready.
3 to 4 balls per round. Then close the stamp for a few minutes: the insert re-inks itself.
Close it right after use and store it upside down. That keeps it ready to use.
My mark smudges: what should I do?
It is almost always too much ink. Stamp 15 to 20 times on kitchen paper, then try again on a test ball. If the design is distorted, you are pressing too long: use a shorter press.
My mark is fading: when should I re-ink?
When the print gets faint, add golf stamp ink, then leave the stamp upside down for 15 to 30 minutes:
- 12 mm stamp: 1 drop on the design. Never more than 4 drops in total.
- 20 mm stamp (CMB Big): 3 drops on the design. Never more than 6 drops in total.
- 25 mm stamp (CMB25): 3 drops. Never more than 9 drops in total.
Still too dry? Leave it upside down overnight.

Removing a mark
The ink is waterproof and indelible: water will not wash it off. To remove a mark, use nail polish remover. Keep the ink away from clothes and fabrics.
